Dholki is a Marathi word that refers to a two headed hand drum, hence the necklace made using drum shaped beads or motifs is known as Dholki necklace. This jewellery is popular in the state of Maharashtra and is one of the traditional types of jewellery used in this region.
These necklaces are popularly handed down from generations and carry a lot of meaning. Each piece is valuable and shares a unique story for each family.
Patwa is a thread craft which originated in Rajasthan and is now practised in parts of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, UP. The word Patwa has been derived from the Hindi word ‘pat’ meaning silk and those involved in the silk and cotton thread business are called Patwas. This is a tribal craft which has a uniqueness. The craftsperson’s of the patwa tribe string beads in the threads and make various types of jewellery out of it.
